Orthodox Easter - The Feast of the Resurrection of Christ

Easter is the greatest holiday of Orthodox Christians and is celebrated on Great Sunday. The Resurrection of the Lord took place in the early hours of Sunday, as we learn from the synaxarion on the day of Holy Easter.

And the Resurrection of the Lord happened like this: At midnight while the guards were guarding the tomb, the earth shook and an angel descended and rolled back the stone from the tomb. The soldiers, seeing this, were terrified and fled; only then did the women come to the tomb, Saturday after midnight, near the breaking of dawn.

"The resurrection was first known to the Mother of God, who, as the Gospel of Matthew says, was sitting at the tomb with Mary Magdalene."
